Adeline was born with Coffin Siris Syndrome and Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, rare and complex conditions that require 24 hour care. Adeline spent the first 18 months of her life in the hospital. With only 200 known cases of Coffin Siris Syndrome and the additional complexity of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, Adeline’s parents, Tom and Deb, did not know what to expect when they were finally able to take Adeline home and they had difficulty finding a pediatric practice that could handle Adeline’s complex needs.
Then they found Children’s Specialized Primary Care in Hamilton, NJ. The Acerno’s lives are complicated, but Deb, says, “Finding Children’s changed our life. The doctors and staff understand all of the Adeline’s challenges and complex health issues and work hard to make sure the Adeline thrives and to make our daily lives manageable.” They’re grateful that the staff at Children’s works together with Adeline’s nurses and her school to help make her care seamless.
When Adeline was a baby, the Acerno’s were told that it was unlikely that she would ever recognize them or be able to engage with them. They were also told that she would never walk. Deb is thrilled to report that at 3 years old, “Adeline has exceeded all expectations! She is an engaging and sweet little girl, very aware of her surroundings and the love she receives. She even took her first steps the other day!”
